- Ethereum (ETH, +0.5%) trades at $2,260.33 (7 days: -3.3%).
- XRP (XRP, +0.0%) trades at $1.25 (7 days: -3.9%).
Biggest risers among those: Lighter (LIT, +18.9%), LayerZero (ZRO, +8.3%), Midnight (NIGHT, +4.9%). Biggest fallers: MemeCore (M, -7.9%), Rain (RAIN, -4.8%), Zcash (ZEC, -3.8%).
Why it might have happened
Bitcoin makes up about 60% of the whole market (that's Bitcoin dominance), so when it moves, most other coins tend to follow. Today Bitcoin (+0.5%) and the wider market moved in different directions, which can happen when money rotates between Bitcoin and altcoins. Sharp moves in individual smaller coins are often driven by coin-specific news, token unlocks, or simple speculation. We don't guess at causes we can't verify.

What it means for a beginner
A one-day move, up or down, says very little about the long run. Red days feel scary, but selling in a panic often locks in a loss. Notice that the biggest movers (19% in a day) are usually smaller coins. Smaller coins swing much harder in both directions.
Tiny glossary
- market cap
- Market cap (market capitalization) is a coin's price multiplied by how many coins exist. It's a rough way to compare how 'big' different coins are.
- Bitcoin dominance
- Bitcoin dominance is Bitcoin's share of the total crypto market cap. When it rises, money is concentrating in Bitcoin relative to other coins.
- altcoin
- An altcoin is any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin.
