What happened
Overall it was a calm day in crypto. The combined value of the 100 biggest coins (their market cap) was about $2.58 trillion, -0.3% over the last 24 hours. Of the 74 best-known coins in the top 100 (stablecoins and wrapped tokens left out), 21 went up and 53 went down.
- Bitcoin (BTC, -0.1%) trades at $75,835.00 (7 days: -2.2%).
- Ethereum (ETH, +0.1%) trades at $2,239.57 (7 days: -0.3%).
- XRP (XRP, -2.2%) trades at $1.16 (7 days: -7.0%).
Biggest risers among those: Pearl (PEARL, +7.1%), Quant (QNT, +3.9%), Mantle (MNT, +2.5%). Biggest fallers: Pump.fun (PUMP, -5.7%), Lighter (LIT, -5.2%), Pepe (PEPE, -3.6%).
Why it might have happened
Bitcoin makes up about 59% of the whole market (that's Bitcoin dominance), so when it moves, most other coins tend to follow. Today neither Bitcoin nor the overall market moved much, which usually just means no single big piece of news dominated. Sharp moves in individual smaller coins are often driven by coin-specific news, token unlocks, or simple speculation. We don't guess at causes we can't verify.
Headlines from today's crypto news (we link them; we don't claim they caused the moves):

What it means for a beginner
A one-day move, up or down, says very little about the long run. Quiet days are a good time to learn rather than trade. Notice that the biggest movers (7% in a day) are usually smaller coins. Smaller coins swing much harder in both directions.
Tiny glossary
- market cap
- Market cap (market capitalization) is a coin's price multiplied by how many coins exist. It's a rough way to compare how 'big' different coins are.
- Bitcoin dominance
- Bitcoin dominance is Bitcoin's share of the total crypto market cap. When it rises, money is concentrating in Bitcoin relative to other coins.
- altcoin
- An altcoin is any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin.
